Massage therapy, in essence, is a cleanse for the cells. As stress accumulates in the mind, body and heart, toxins build in the body’s tissues, making circulation difficult. Cells become more and more deprived of nutrients as the tissue hardens and becomes congested. Massage decreases this tension, allowing blood to recirculate in the nutrient-deprived areas. Toxins are washed away, leaving the client feeling looser and more balanced.
My style of massage comprises mostly of Swedish and Deep Tissue. It may also incorporate Lymphatic Drainage, Mayofascial Release techniques and stretching.
Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best-known type of massage. Pressure can range from light to firm, and there is usually some deeper work on areas of specific muscle tension.
Deep tissue massage is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. It is a more focused type of massage than Swedish, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension and trigger points.
Sports massage is a type of Swedish massage that stimulates circulation of blood and lymph fluids. Some sports massage movements use trigger point therapy to break down adhesions (knots in the muscles) and increase range of motion.
Lymph massage is designed to promote the healthy flow of lymph. Lymph is the clear fluid which supports immune system function by flowing through the body and sequestering foreign material like viruses. Lymph massage eliminates blockages in the lymphatic system, helps to pull out toxins, reduces swelling and clears the lymphatic system so that lymph can move freely through the body. This type of massage is generally very gentle.
My many years’ experience has honoured me with opportunities to help future mothers feel more at ease and help prepare for birth. This type of massage has the client side-lying for most of the session, with plenty of pillow props for the ultimate in comfort and rest. Labour massage is also available.
After carrying a little one inside for about nine months, mama is adjusting to less sleep and holding the new little bundle. This gentle massage soothes the aches and pains associated with her new lifestyle.
My philosophy is that the body is a whole structure, therefore I may work on several parts of your body when you may only request one. For example, a shoulder issue may stem from chest tension, or vice versa.
I am interested in all types of issues within my scope (soft tissue: muscle, connective tissue). When any issue you may bring to me is beyond my scope, I will be happy to refer you to the appropriate health practitioner.
My specialties include pelvic issues such as sciatica, hip imbalance, and SI joint/sacral issues, and jaw problems such as TMJ, headaches and migraines.
